Ways to Play

The same yard, changed by the way you defend it

Back again! Pull up a chair — this subject’s my favorite. Today’s good ol’ neighborly advice is about play style: the different types of defense, and how choosing one type or another makes the yard feel brand new every time you step into it.
01
THE IDEA

Same yard, your style

Some cats punch whatever stands beside them, some pick pests off from across the grass, some let little machines do the working, and some hold the yard by keeping the beat. Every one of these holds the yard. The depth is in leaning in — picking a style and playing your cat, your shop offers, and your loot-sack discoveries toward the goal of ridding the yard of pests once and for all!

02
KEY WORDS & CONCEPTS

Weapon families

Here’s the mechanism under it, and it’s one you can see: every weapon’s card carries little words — blade, gun, support, and more. Those are its families. Weapons of a family make each other stronger, and each family pays its own kind of bonus: blades mend your cat as they cut, guns hurry one another along, support weapons pay extra coins and luck just for keeping company. Tap any family word in the Armory and the whole family lines up for you.

PLAY STYLES

Five to start with

The melee cat

Paws, bats, thunder — standing where it’s loud. Two cats were born for it:

BrawlerBull

Brawler doubles every unarmed hit and starts with nothing but paws; Bull swings only close and answers every hurt with a boom.

The ranged cat

Long grass, long sightlines, pests that never arrive.

RangerLongwhiskerEldritch Mittens

Ranger sees half again as far; Longwhisker hits hardest at the greatest distance; Eldritch Mittens threads one shot through many pests.

The explosives cat

Every problem is a crowd, and crowds have one answer.

Kaboom Kitten

Kaboom Kitten turns explosive luck into bigger and bigger blooms.

The Catraption specialist

Build the defense, then watch it defend.

TechnomeowTinkertail

Technomeow plants a permanent Core and feeds it coins; Tinkertail makes every structure fire like it means it.

The band

Some cats hold the yard by keeping the beat — luck and plunder are claws too.

FarmerLucky

Farmer grows coins the whole wave long; Lucky makes the coins themselves bite back.

And there are more styles than five — the Roster is full of playstyles waiting to be found.

04
YOUR CAT

Where a style begins

Choosing a cat by more than the color of its fur is the first step down the road to pest-pounding power. Each cat’s lean is read off its card — not directly, but gleaned: its stats and abilities create opportunities for many strong playstyles. Take one of those opportunities and build on it in the shop — that’s how you lean into a style and unlock its potential.

05
NEXT TIME

Lean differently

A style is a flavor, never a duty. Play many cats, try many playstyles — melee today, the band tomorrow — or stick with one and learn its depths. The yard welcomes every style, and each defense you shape differs from the last and the next. That difference is what makes each yard unique, and ensures each choice you make on the yard is one you’ve not made before. Now — which cat is it today?
